Region One Board Nominations

It is again time to choose the leadership of CEC-Ohio Region One for the 2005-20006 year. There are 18 positions on the Board of Directors and the positions of President-elect and Treasurer. Please consider nominating yourself or a colleague. All nominations must be members in good standing with International CEC and CEC-Ohio. Nominations will be accepted until April 5, 2005 to Leslie Grabert at 23404 Grist Mill Court , Olmsted Falls , OH 44138 or email lgrabert@bcsoh.org .

Description of Positions:

 

President-elect

•  Serves as chairperson of the Program Committee.

•  Assumes the President's role in his/her absence.

•  Completes any assignments given by the President.

•  Assumes the position of President in June 2006. 

Treasurer

•  Receives all funds belonging to the region and pays out the same according to the budget or by approval of the Board of Directors.

•  Keeps and itemizes account of receipts and disbursements to be presented at the annual business meeting and files with the Secretary.

•  Submits books to be accredited at the end of the fiscal year.

•  Serves as Chairperson of Finance Committee.

•  Serves as member of Foundations Committee.

•  This is a two-year position.  

Member, Board of Directors

•  Formulate and recommend policies and programs to Region One.

•  Carry out the mandates and policies of Region One.

•  Serves on various program committees of Region One.

•  Attend monthly Board of Director meetings.

•  Review the budget.

•  If asked by the President, represents Region One on the CEC-Ohio Board.

•  This is a one-year position.

Region One Awards Nominations

It is time for nominations for the Annual Region One Awards. Please read the criteria for Teacher of the Year, Educator of the Year, Distinguished Service Award, General Education Teacher of the Year and, Outstanding Paraprofessional. Please submit nominations by email or regular mail by April 15, 2005. Winners will be invited to the Award Banquet on Tuesday, May 17, 2005. Send nomination form to Leslie Grabert, 23404 Grist Mill Court , Olmsted Falls , OH 44138 or email lgrabert@bcsoh.org .

Here is the selection criteria:

Special Education Teacher of the Year Award

•  The person nominated must be a current member in good standing with CEC for at least the past three years.

•  The person can not be a current officer or member of the Awards Committee.

•  The person nominated has contributed significantly to the education of exceptional children. The contribution should be essentially through direct contact with pupils in the educational process.

•  The person nominated has been recognized by his/her colleagues and/or community as an outstanding teacher of exceptional children.

Special Educator of the Year Award

•  The person nominated must be a current member in good standing with CEC for at least the past three years.

•  The person has contributed to the welfare of exceptional children: i.e., legislation, program development, curriculum, federation service, education for the public, etc.

•  The person nominated may not be employed as a classroom teacher or a person directly involved in the teaching of exceptional children.

•  The person nominated can not be a current officer or a member of the Award Committee.

Distinguished Service Award

•  This award is presented to an individual, a program, or a department, which has made significant contribution in promoting the education and welfare of exceptional children and youth on a local level.

•  The accomplishment of the nominee should have local implications.

•  The nominee should be a resident of Northeast Ohio or his/her contribution should be significant in Northeast Ohio .

•  The nominee may not be a member of Region One or CEC-Ohio.

•  The nominee may be a paid professional worker with exceptional children or a lay person.

General Education Teacher of the Year

•  The nominee must be a general education teacher that is working with exceptional children in an inclusionary setting.

•  The nominee has contributed significantly to the education of all children in an inclusionary setting, which all students work toward the same educational outcomes based on high standards.

•  His/Her colleagues and/or community have recognized the nominee as an outstanding general education teacher in an inclusionary setting.

Outstanding Paraprofessional Award

•  The candidate for this award must be a full time employee who works with exceptional children.

•  The person nominated has contributed significantly to the education of exceptional children.

•  The person has been recognized by his/her colleagues and/or community as an outstanding paraprofessional.

 

REGION ONE ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP 2005  

Please read carefully:

The Council for Exceptional Children – Region One is awarding a scholarship of $500 for the purpose of assisting an outstanding college student, in the field of special education, with the costs of an education. The scholarship is available to a current college student and member of the Council for Exceptional Children, who is preparing to become a special education teacher. The award will be based on scholastic achievement, financial need, leadership ability, and staff recommendation.

Please give detailed and explicit answers to all questions in the student portion of the application, Forms I & II. Please have a college staff member write a letter of recommendation for you on Form III. Return Forms I, II, and III to:
